If this is the case with your keyboard, then you needn't keep an extra one handy, just plug it into the PS2 adaptor before you boot. I am aware that some BIOS disable usb to speed boot along and that the common way to fix this is to use a ps/2 keyboard however, I just drove 35 Because of this, I advise you to backup any personal files and folders before you start.

regular fast boot is fine as long as the USB Support is set to [Full Initial] and or the PS2 Devices Support is set to [Enabled] . The PC has been imaged, the image works fine on other pc's. I switched from a usb to a ps2 keyboard, and it doesn't work under winxp. Ps2 Keyboard Not Working In Bios I hope this helped!
